THAT ONE CHAIR

We all have THAT ONE CHAIR that ends up being the catch-all for our unworn clothes. This design is meant to take that funny habit and transform it into something beautiful and functional. This object encourages users to upholster it with their own unique styles. The more they partake in the bad habit of not putting clothes away the comfier the chair becomes.

Along with adding beauty to our daily disorder, this chair also attempts to raise awareness of a larger issue. By reusing discarded clothes in its upholstery, this chair encourages the recycling and reuse of materials. The goal is to inform users of various recycling options for their clothing when they are done with them.

Small Details

Creating
THAT ONE CHAIR

Capturing clothing with seating

I began sketching various forms that explore how clothes might be captured, draped, or hung on a chair.

Testing all angles

Creating over 60 small mock-ups allowed me to quickly ideate a variety of ideas. Visually exploring each design from all angles.

Going to Scale

Building in Scale allowed me to not only experience each design decision in its final dimensions but also test the strength and comfort.
